Very little is actually known about the ship called Mayflower that carried the colonist to Plimoth. It is known to be a merchant ship designed to carry cargo rather than passengers. The general design of such ships is known so historians can surmise what it may have looked like. It has been proven to be a ship out of Harwich Essex England and her Master (captain) was Christopher Jones.
The Mayflower was a merchant ship built to carry cargo not passengers. This means the passengers on the Mayflower had to travel in the lower deck which was windowless, dark, damp and the roughest part of the ship to be in. The ceiling was low because it was meant to accommodate barrels.
